Show ' THE GLORIOUS FOURTH. H k We have celebrated many a glorious Fourth of July, H but none more glorious than July Fourth, 1917, and per- Hi haps this one will be chronicled the most glorious in our H history. Nearly one and one-half centuries ago our fore- fathers declared that "all men are created equal" and in a H mighty struggle made the first fight against the crowned H heads of the world. Since that time we have grown to be the mightiest republic in the world, and following in our M wake some of the monarchies of the world have changed M their forms of government, have listened to the voice of B the people, but have still clung to the crowned heads only B with less power, while others have held on to the old sys- fl tern. At this time the world is engaged in a terrific M struggle to complete what we began nearly one hundred H fifty years ago, to shatter that form of government thai- H clings to inheritance, and institute individual worth in th" H place thereof, to put a final quietus on th grcit foo of H Liberty, and establish justice and right throughout the H It is right that the republic that started the job chouL' H finish it, for it is decreed that the "little stone cut out of H the mountain" shall fill the whole earth. Therefore, a? H our illustrious forefathers rejoiced at the deeds of Wash- H ington and thanked God for the blessings vouchsafed H through the revolution, we of this generation can take H heart, celebrate, and thank God that the struggle means H a more general establishment of the government which H we have enjoyed throughout the world, fewer crowned H heads, and more justice and Liberty for the masses of the H i people. This mav be our most gracious fourth, the day H I when the shot will ring around the world that 'the Star- H Spangled Banner is the flag that makes the Kaiser just H a man, nothing more, perhaps less, and makes the entire B world "safe for democracy."
