Mr. Owen has been through PpV n great part of tho records In tho PpB federal building which are connect- Ppi ed with the selection of tho lands by PPJ tho stato of Utah, and Also has been going Into tho policies of tho federal government In connection with tho selling of mineral lands which aru lcluded In the public domain. Mr. Owen made a trip recently Into In-to Carbon and Emery counties to go over the lands which wero bought by certain companies which are cither operating coal mines or which intend in-tend to operato at an early dato In order that ho might havo nil tho necessary nec-essary data as to tho out-cropplngs and other evldcnco of coal deposits. Yesterday ho declined to comment on tho trip to tho southern part of the state. Ho said, however, that ho Is not looking for IGO-acre tracts, but that his Investigation reveals a far-greater far-greater acrcago was Included In tho different Bales which have been brought Into question since he started start-ed tho Investlbatlon under the $2G,-000 $2G,-000 appropriation which was granted grant-ed Governor Bamberger by the legislature legis-lature to go through the state departments depart-ments and determlno whether or not any of tho state departments wero In n lax condition. Mr. Owen has been In Mr. Kay's office on several occasions In connection with his work In tho investigation, but Mr. Hay said yesterday that tho visits nf Mr. Owen wero only friendly calls. Mr. Illnrlchs declared that tho general gen-eral land offlco has nothing whatever what-ever to do with tho Investigation, excepting ex-cepting In so far as It furnishes Information. In-formation. Mr. Owen said yesterday that tho purpose of his visit to the federal building was to measure acreages acre-ages of coal deposits which are in selected lands of tho state. |
