Show THE GEM JERSEY FARM A visit to the Gem Jersey Farm, owned by Isrnolson Land Live Stock and 1'roduco Company, llyrum, Utah: This is a company of progressive farmers, incorporated under tho laws of Utah, with a capital stock of $25,-000, $25,-000, all of which is owned by tho family, including John K and Itollan Allred, sons-in-law. Tho officers are: A. M. Israelson, president and manager; John A. Israelson, Is-raelson, vlco president; Vernon L. Israelson, secretary and treasurer. Mr. A. M. Israelsen Is one of Cache County's leading citizens. He has served as chnlrman of the Hoard of County Commissioners for four' years, has always boon recognized as an honest, progressive man of good Judgment, favorably known among business men and highly respected In church circles. Ho is n believer in and n booster of tho educational Institutions In-stitutions of tho county and state. Mr. Israelsen has been in attendance at every Farmers' Uoumlup, held In Logan, anil he is a loyal friend of the U. A. (Professor of Irrigation and Drainage, Drain-age, at the College), Victor E., Vernon Ver-non L., and Uibert K., all feel at home at the school on the hill. This nccounts for what one finds on visiting tho Gem Jersey Farm, managed by John A. This farm is located just southwest of Hyrum, on Little Bear IUver. Ono Is first attracted at-tracted by tho beautiful productlvo herd of pure bred and grado Jersey cows some thirty in number. Wo nre advised that an individual production record is kept for overy cow, showing tho amount of buttcr-fnt buttcr-fnt produced per month and tho cost of production. The silo and dairy barn are of interest, in-terest, this being the first silo to be built, south of Logan. It Is full of this valuablo winter 'dairy feed. Tho barn Is equipped with a Sharpies Milking Machine, grain chopper, fanning fan-ning mill, grind stone, cream separator, separ-ator, bean and pea throshor, all operated op-erated by electric power ' and tho barn Ib electric lighted. A private water system convoys tho clear, cold water from a spring to the farm, homo, barn and yards. Tho homo is mado convenient, being equipped with lnodcrhr lnbor saving appliances so appreciated by houso-wlvos, houso-wlvos, running water, bath, telephone, tele-phone, electricity for lights, cooking, ironing, etc. An abundance of music, mu-sic, books and choice periodicals including in-cluding Utah Farmer, Deseret News, Logan Kepublican, Hoard's Dairyman, Dairy-man, Jersey Bulletin, and Breeders' Gazette. Tho livestock show careful improvement. im-provement. Puro bred Jerseys for the dairy; Shorthorns for tho range, and by the way tho beef is shipped by carload lots to market centers. Tam-worth Tam-worth hogs and llhodo Island Reds, aro money makers. The farm has produced this season sea-son tho following crops: Alfalfa hay, corn for silo, sugar beets, navy beans, seed peas, alfalfa seed, potatoes, wheat, barley and oats, besides pasture for the dairy herd. Tho range cattle graze on mountain moun-tain pastures during summer and are fed in tho valley during winter. Our reporter found a very sociable, soci-able, interesting farmer and was invited in-vited to visit the farm again. |
