Early jester-day jester-day morning- our, streets were filled with young and old ready for the big day. As tho national colors wore unfurled un-furled and the strains of the national anthem greeted our ears it stirred the same emotions that havo called forth sacrifices In the past and made heroes. Mr. nomney's saluto to tho a vein that showed truo patriotism, nag was well prepared and given In Our band was heartily cheered for Its Inspiring music At 10 a. in. a public meeting was held. Tho master of coremonles was William Homer, who know Just what to say and when to Bay it. William Parkington, tho capablo choir leader mado a cholco solectlon ot songs for the occasion. Tho male chorus, "Tho Star Spangled Banner," was well rendered. Mayor Richardson's address of welcome was short but pointed and mado every ono feol doubly welcome. Nathan Doano was encored and sang tho second timo. John H. Peterson, our city or-htor, or-htor, gave a most Interesting talk on tho Declaration of Independence and Horaco Noboker, ot Logan, gavo one of tho best orations wo havo ovor listened to. Richard Roskelloy's solo merited n recall. Mr. Temperance Melklo gavo a well prepared comic paper and tho -Mrs. Klrkbrldo and company quartet, "Drink to Mo Only With Thlno Eyes," was truly a gem. Tho band played several selections during tho program. Beforo the close cf tho meeting rain began to pour In torrents and continued so for several hours so that a damper was put on the afternoon sports. The band met at 2 p. m. and kept things lively Iu a musical line, much to tho enjoyment of tho adults, but tho children were disappointed that tho scheduled games could not bo played. A grand ball closed tho day's festivities. Many visitors from the surrounding settlements settle-ments wero here to participate In tho day's pleasures. Tho mayor, city council and the different committees are deserving ot pralso for tho excellent ex-cellent program outlined for tho day, Tho attiuctlvo new bungalow of Mr. and Mrs. James Klrkbrldo, was tho scene of a merry crowd, when thoy entertained the "chums Club."
