Show LUXURY TAX TO GO Among other things which will receive. the attention of the Sixty-sixth Congress according to Senator Penrose, who will be chairman of the Senate Finance committee, com-mittee, will be the luxury taxes which the Free Trade administration inflicted upon the people of this country. He is in favor of the repeal of these taxes and there is little doubt but that they will be repealed. Some of them, doubtless, are well enough, but it is a poor-way to raise money and certainly a most unpopular one. It is not so much the amount of tho taxes as it is the petty bother ana annoyance. annoy-ance. And it is all so useless. Had we had an adequate Protective Tariff, we should not have been driven to the necessity neces-sity of "stealing candy from babies" in order to "raise money with which to pay our, bills-American Economist |
