Show Vote ' Your Convictions. Every American citizen is a nobleman. That is decreed de-creed in the constitution purchased with the blood of the Revolution. Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and an untrammeled ballot are .heritages of the American Ameri-can citizen. k When the President of the United States declared that the war would be pushed until the "world was made safe fordemocracy," all American citizens were with him. Now that he has declared that the United States must be "made safe for the Democratic party," all Republicans Repub-licans must part with his company. When the President declared that "politics was adjourned," ad-journed," the people applauded, but now that he has reconvened re-convened politics, and declares that none but D'emocrats .should apply, and that Republicans should "uncondition--Uy surrender," the people will do just as the people of Wisconsin and Maine did, and vote their convictions. Any , other condition would make the people, but serfs and slaves tothe whims and fancies Of a petty politician. 1 Whe.n the President interferred and practically demanded de-manded that the murderer Hillstrom be reprieved, Governor Gov-ernor Spsy stood firm for the . principles of citizenship guaranteed by the constitution, and the people .applauded. The influence of the President might have been hurt in Germany, but Germany was given notice that she was not fighting the President -but that she was fighting the Am- - erican people. - , " , The President is'now butting into New Jersey poli- tics-and demanding the defeat of Senator Baird, because he refused to vote for the suffrage amendment. At the same time he wants the Democratic senators, who refused re-fused to listen to his eleventh hour suffrage plea elected. Two years ago when the Wilson, stock was at its high tide the President did not carry his home voting district, precinct, pre-cinct, county nor state. The majority of the people of New Jersey are Republicans, and while they stand by Woodrow Wilson as Commander-in-Chief of the Army, they do not believe in his democratic fancies, hi3 free trade theories,, and they will see to it that as far as New Jersey is concerned that the United States will not be S ' made "free for the Democratic party." fo A large majority of the people of Utah areVRepubli- cans. A great many weVe caught on the "kept us out of war" slogan two years ago, but after being fooled once .they will be on their guard forever after. They have had ' enoUgh of pacifism, and are fast getting enough of Bam- bergerism, having emerged from the clouds where they see things clearly they will vote this time with, both feet on the ground. In Cache County the COURT HOUSE BUNCH have sought to be a, law unto themselves, and the Democratic County Chairman declares that the few who are opposed to such actions, tha,t have been repudiated by the courts, are "against the government and everything and anything."' any-thing."' Chairman Vernon may be atye to .condemn such actions as a private citizen,,as he has done hundreds of - times, and then approve them as Chairman of his party, and make the people swallow them, but indications are that the pill is top big for the people to take. ( Citizens, should hold their heads, remember that we are still living under the old flag, that the rights vouch safed by the constitution are ours, and that no party has a monopoly on them. Notwithstanding the edict of the President, the people will ycte as they voted in Maine and Wisconsin, and when the new Congress assembles, the de- i sires of the people of the various states will be voted and is. represented, and not the desires and whims of the Dem- ; ocratic party. |
