Show m m m ENCOURAGE OIL DEVELOPMENT The Walsh Flttman Bill as passed by the senate seems to be a meas- . ure under which oil development in such slates' as Colorado and Wyoming Wyom-ing .could be secured.' ' ., .It Is generally conceded that while. It left much to bo doslrcd on 'tho part of the oil Interests, It Is probably prob-ably as favorable a measure as could bo passed at this time and that an effort to chango It would undoubtedly undoubt-edly hold up tho pasBago of any measure permitting oil development in tho mountain states. A now measure has boon substituted, substit-uted, howover, by Department heads killing tho remedial sections 10 and 17 of tho Wnlsh bill by substitutes a provlslov granting a lc'so on each producing well herotutoro drilled' on withdrawn .lands and with only sufficient suf-ficient ground to operate such well and without tho right to drill any additional wells on such land. This provision Is simply a killer for oil development and It would seem that our public officiate could sco tho necessity of measures which would stabilize and safeguard tho big Industry now being developed In Colorado and Wyoming, Instead of j offering measures to kill It. The senate has attempted to help oil development in tho west and It Is to bo hoped tho house will not give It a set back at this late day. |
