Chicago, Juno C- Tho Utah delegation, delega-tion, after a brief, but lively, caucus this evening made tho following selec tlons for committees nnd other places In connection with tho convention' Chairman of delegation, A. It. Hey-wood: Hey-wood: honorary vlco president of convention, W. D. Candlandj member mem-ber of committee on rules, 'William Spry; member of committee on permanent per-manent organization, P. W. Price; member of committee on resolutions, Ocorgo Sutherland; member of com-mlttco com-mlttco to notify presidential candidate, candi-date, Reed Smoot; member of com-mlttco com-mlttco to nptlfy vice presidential candidate H. S. Joseph; member of credentials committee Joseph Howell. For member of the national commute com-mute four nominations were'rhado Heed Smoot, Ernest Bamberger, J. U. Kldredgo Jr., nnd P. W. Prlco. Price withdrew his name before tho vote was taken. Smoot received live votes. Hnmberger ono and El-dredge El-dredge one. Tho delegation discussed at length how tho voto of the stato should bo cast on tho first and subsequent ballots, bal-lots, and Harry Joseph In a rod hot speech declared that If any' effort was made to enforco tho unit rule ho would refuse to remain with tho delegation dele-gation nnd would voto Individually ninl Independently. Ho said that ho expected, ,ln tho Interests of harmony har-mony to voto for Colonel Roosevelt, and predicted a reunion of UiojegU; lars and Progressives should ttoos'o-velt ttoos'o-velt bo nominated which ho said would put the Republican party back In powor. Senator Smoot told tho delegation that from his observation of tho situation sit-uation ho was convinced that Justice Hughes would bo nqminated early In the proceedings, that lio ,wculd accept the nomination and that Hoosovolt would support him; ' No action was taken In the direction direc-tion of an agreement how to vote, but possibly afurth'er meeting will bo hold to consider tho question. " As the delegation now stands tho voto on tho first ballot will be one tor Roosevelt, two for Root and five for Hughes, Governor Spry and V. D. Cand-land Cand-land will voto for Root on the llnst ballot. On subsequent ballots, If Mr. Joseph remains obdurate tho vote probably will bo ono for Roosovolt and so ven for Hughes. |
