It was admitted admit-ted that Into rcturna might upset tho totals, but Harding was bclloveu to havo a sufficient lend to Insure his nomination without recourse to tho Republican stato convention, which meets in July. Thlrty-flvo per cent of tho vote Is necessary to nominate. Senator Joseph Allen of Pocahontas Pocahon-tas and George Casson of Audubon wero running neck and neck at 11 o'clock tonight for second placo on tho ticket. Kuehnlo waB a bad third. Returns were coming so slowly as to lndicato that tho final outcome may not bo known for several idays. It seemed probable that tho suffrage suf-frage amendment would be ndoptcd, although by a smaller majority than was predicted by tho advocates t etcs for women. Tho Mississippi river counties, virtually without exception, ex-ception, It is believed, will voto down tho amendment. In tho central part of tho state; tho western ptirt and tho northern tier of counties, It Is believed tho amendment will carry by a fair margin. Candidates for stato offices on tho Democratic ticket had no opposition. |
