Applauso was generous, but It was the lighter numbers. that received the most Insistent In-sistent encores. Tho concert was given under tho auspices of tho tabernacle choir, which opened tho program witn tho march, "Tnnhnusor," well handled Wilder Wil-der tho direction of Professor Evan Stephens, with Professor J. J. Mc-Clellan Mc-Clellan at tho organ. Musically, tho work of Charles Shepherd, pianist, took first Honors, although every selection of tho ovonlng ovon-lng wns woH presented. Charles Shophord is truly a brilliant bril-liant pianist. He brings to his interpretation in-terpretation keen dlserlmlnatton and tine perception of artistic values. Many an older professional might havo envied his playing of Liszt's sonuta In D minor. llert Shephord, violinist, was heard to advantage, In a group ot four ploas-lug ploas-lug numbers all played with skill and taste. Hubny's "Horjo Katl" roused a storm of applauso and for an en-coro en-coro Mr. Shephord played "Traum-orel" "Traum-orel" with excollcnt interprotation ot Its mystic beauties. After tho tab-ornaclo tab-ornaclo choir had sung "Twilight" (I'rothoroo), tho cello became tho featuro of thJ trio In D minor (Men-( (Men-( delssohn). Irving Snow played woll and tho violin, cello and piano bo-camo bo-camo "ono volco." Somo of tho phrasing In tho second movement was particularly beautiful. |
