Mack of Unlontown, Pa., who havc-been. closely idonttfled with J. W .Thompson, the Pennsylvania coal magnate, wero nt tho Hotel Utah yesterday on tho'r way cast, after having visited the coal Jlelds In the Uintah basin. They nlso gave some attention to tho hydro carbon deposits and tho oil fields, the existence of which has been roportod from that nart nf Utah. Mr Italston said the trip was ono of Inspection for Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania peoplo and thnt ho was not a liberty to talk concerning those for whom bo woa working or of the Investigation. This Is the third trip or Mr. Ralston and Mr Mnck to Salt Lake, within four months. Prior to tho opening of the West Virginia fields, Mr. nalston made Investigations Investiga-tions for Mr. Thompson. "Thet Uintah basin Is ono of tho best parts of tho west, but until there Is a railroad built Into that part of tho stato there Is l'ttle use In developing devel-oping the resources, said Mr. Ralston. Ral-ston. "Of course- It might be said that with tho development there will be a ra'lroad built, but I cannot see development without a railroad to get big tonnago, but tho railroads do not havo the money for extension or construction purposes at this tlmo. If tho Moffat lino would soon -bo bu'lt through the basin, something might bo done or If a branch lino should be built from somo of tho points on tho Denver & Rio Grande or from Salt Lako there might bo some development. |
