Show a m EYE OF THE CAMERA. Waihad Out Blood Statnt Cannot Ea-capo Ea-capo the Ultra Violat Rayi. Even beforo It had been adapted exclusively, ex-clusively, by means of special lens construction and combination, to tho reception of the invlslblo ultra violet rays, the camera eye, owing to Its peculiar pe-culiar sensitiveness to this light, has played a Btrlklngly dramatic role on various occasions. Ono of theso occurred oc-curred a few years ago in Lausanne, Switzerland. It appears that a handkerchief formed an exhibit at n murder trial and was regarded as n crucial bit of evidence. Tho closest Inspection failed to reveal n stain on tho immaculately white cloth even with the aid of n powerful microscope. But It occurred to a professor of Lausauno university to photograph the handkerchief, when the Image obtained clearly disclosed the presence of great splotches, or. rnther. of wbnt hnd been such, showing show-ing ghostlike in tho carefully washed fabric. The photograph proved tho turning point of tho trial, and tho result re-sult wns conviction. Blood, as wns scientifically explained at the time, happens to be one of tho Bubstanccs Hint absorb ultra violet rays, nnd when nny of these Riibstnnees have found their way to n receptive surface no nmnunt of erasing or cleansing can hide Its presence from the camera eye. When the latter Is equipped to utilize only this Invisible light the result Is much more marked. Should the neatest erasure be made In writing done with substances xpeclnlly absorbent nf the rays the ultra violet photograph would show the traces of the erasure ns plainly us the writing ltself.-New York Tribune. |
