Tho following story was sent In a letter to the editor of Our Fourfooted Friends: "I want to tell you a. cat story (the truth of which I know), that you may use In your llttlo magazine. Mrs. R bad a cat, a dog and a canary bird, all of which wcro content, and more, In the care and lovo of a gcntlo heart Tho cat, Kitty, was very fond of tho bird, and would sit beneath tho cago and listen to tho singing with every evidence of plcasuro and pride. Two years ago last summer Mrs. R. was In her rear yard with hor flowers when Kitty camo running to l.or, mewing mew-ing loudly, nnd then rnn back toward tho house, repeating her dumb efforts. Finally, Mrs. R. said, "Well, Kitty, I'll come in and seo what Is the trouble.' Ab sho passed In the door a strange cat ran out. Tho cago wns on the floor, and tho bird wns dead. And now for tho real heart of tho story, for the voracity of which 1 can vouch. Tho empty cago was rchung in the window; Kitty came and stood beneath be-neath tho cage, looking up and mew-tng. mew-tng. For two days sho stood, then sho lay down; she refused food; delicacies delica-cies that onco sho bad enjoyed sho did not notice.
