Show FRANKLIN FitANKLiN, Oct. 2.1. On Saturday the 14th the citizens voted on the question of bonding for $7,500 for the construction of water works.and not a single vote was cast against the proposition. prop-osition. The election went off harmoniously. Tho village trustees have done all thay could to put the enterprise through, and it Is gratify lug that their ellorts were crowned with success. Rcfore the election they had bought a a line spring of water from Robert Dowdle, situated about one mile and a half on the bench south cast of town. They paid $1,500 for this and a piece of land on which to build a rcservlor, which will be made of cement. The water will be conveyed to town through pipes and also to the houses using it. It is a splendid thing for the inhabitants of Franklin, as the city does not have pure water. Now tho bonds are for sale, and the highest bidders will get them. Therelsanold saying that nothing good could come to Franklin but It is not so, for the enterprising people of Frrnklln have for a good while seen the necessity of doing something for the advancement and progress of our town. Our trustees have waked up In earnsst and are doing all they can for tho good of Franklin, hence they granted a franchise to the Hell and Independent Co.'.-. to erect their poles In our streets, also granted a franchise to an electric light company to erect poles. Rut the best they have done Is to start tho water enterprise and they have labored faithfully to the end. As soon as the bonds arc disposed of work will commence in earnest, Und It will not be long beforo wo will have pure spring water in our houses. On Tuesday night the 17th Inst, there was a heavy fall or snow, and it has put a stop to farmers putting In their fall crops. Many havo not yet gathered their potatoes und their beets. The good Latter-day Saints of Franklin are improving, spiritually as well as temporally. Our Sunday meetings arc well attended and our Sunday school Is in good condition, also our district school, and I believe we are all blest with prosperity. A mining company has been formed here consisting of some of our most enterprising citizens, namely J. J. Hill, L. C. Parkinson, Joseph Scarborough, Scar-borough, T. O. Lowe, and others. They arc called the "Franklin Mining Co." and their mine Is situated up In Maple creek. The prospects are good. |
