FRED SCHOLES, A NOMINEE i J Republicans have it that the demo- ! orats arc going to center their tight In certain wards and Just at present it looks like the Fifth Is going to be the center of a terrific opposition on the part of democracy. Every available argument Is being used against the republican nominee for the council, Mr. Fred Scholcs, and tho boast of some Is that they "will get him." Mr. Scholes is credited with being a man Inexperienced In business affairs, unsafe as a councilman, etc., etc. It is well for the republicans of that ward to understand the truth about Mr. Scholcs so that they may meet democratic opposition with fact), and for that purpose tho following short sketch of his career (sulllolent to disprove dis-prove any claim of democracy) Is here presented: Mr. Scholes was born July 2D, 1870, in Leeds, Yorkshire, England and cm-migrated cm-migrated to Utah in the sprlngof 1882. He was employed by tho 'A, C. M. I. foo four years, from 1881 to 1888, and In 1881) was yardmastcr for the Salt Lake Lumber Co. In the year 18lio Mr. Scholcs entered the employ of the Freeze Merc. Co., Salt Lake city, remaining re-maining with them until' called to till a mission to Great Rrltaln In 1894. There he labored for twenty live months in the Lcedsconfercuce.prcsld-Ing Lcedsconfercuce.prcsld-Ing over the Hull branch. He returned re-turned home, after honorable release, In June, 18!l. Mr. Scholes was married mar-ried In 180.1 to Miss Abble Uurnham, daughter of a Cache county pioneer, Wallace K. Rurnham of Richmond, and prior to this time was a frequent visitor to Cache county. In January, 1808 he decided to locate permanently In Logan and for several years was In the employ of Zeph Thomas as abstractor, ab-stractor, conveyancer and notary public. pub-lic. He was elected ono of the tlrst governors of the Cache Commercial club and was tlrst sccrotarv and manager man-ager of the club, assisting very materially mater-ially In Its organization, promotion and success. At present holds the position as director, secretary and treasurer of the Daniclscn Mfg. Co., Is director and secretary of the Logan Furniture company, and clerk of the Logan llishop's store house. It Is thus shown that Mr. Scholes' experience has been wide and varied, a necessary adjunct to holding council-manic council-manic otllcc. Mr. Scholcs is a genial, popular fellow, and before the public lias borne a splendid record. Republicans Repub-licans of the Fifth should not bo misled mis-led by democratic Insistance. |
