Show Joy In Work. Tho spirit of art for Its own sake, of tcullty for Its own sake and of work for Its own sake, regardless of the results re-sults or rewards that follow after. Is coming to be the dominating motive of every one who Is worth while. The I true secret of teeiiperntlon is to make each task a Joy. Tills Is likewise the secret of success. X man will do that thing well that he loves. Nor will the doing of it bring weariness, but beyond n little physical wear and tear, which Is boon mended, will actually renew and rest him. There nre tasks that make us weary before we begin them. Itut any work Into which the soul enters en-ters is u Joy and so Invigorates and stimulates the mind that it In turn invigorates in-vigorates and stimulates the body. President Charles W. Eliot of Harvard Har-vard recently touched this thought In its social relation. He said: The winning of satisfaction nnd content In dally work Is the most fundamental of all objects for an Industrial democracy. Unless tills satisfaction and content can be habitually won on nn Immense, scnle the hopes and Ideals of democracy cannot can-not be reiillzed Therefore Joy In work should bo the nil pervndlng subject of the Industrial discussion, for It Is at once motive, guldo and goal. A happy people are good citizens. A people to bo happy must feel that they have Justice ami must take delight In their dnlly occupations. Work should be made play. No man should follow an occupation that Is not congenial and Inspiring. The fact tlint It Is otherwise shows that lie has not found his niche In the world. Of course there nre tho derelicts nnd tho Indolent to whom any occupation is distasteful, Put they nro the exception. excep-tion. Tho nverago human being desires to be employed provided tho employment employ-ment Is that which belongs to him nnd for which he Is llttcd. Joy Hi work Is the secret of achievement. |
