Dr. John Phillips owns several farms In Essex, Kngland, and, ns ho visits them frequently, ho recently purchased an automobile and discarded dis-carded the carringo In which ho had traveled over his broad acres for many years. With his now acquisition acquisi-tion ho was mightily pleased until he happened one day to drtvo through a flr-ld In which a Bavage bull was grazing. The moment tho animal saw tho automobile It started to Its feet and In tho twinkling of an eyo came helter-skelter for Mr. Phillips. Tho latter was equal to the emergency. emer-gency. Increasing his speed, ho charged for the Infuriated animal and promptly prompt-ly knocked It down. In a second, however, how-ever, the liill was again on Its feet and, with head lowered, was preparing prepar-ing for a Becond rush, but the farmer was too quick for It, for, turning tho automobile, ho charged again, and struck the bull In the rear with such force that It was almost knocked senseless. This was the end of tho combat, for as soon as It recovered from its amazement tho bull sneaked away, and never slnco then has It ventured to renew tho attack, though Mr. Phillips frequently drives close to it. |
