Show Of Interest to Farmers. A Conversation Between one of Them and Pres. Farrell. There Is not a little apathy manifested mani-fested toward tho Fanners Association, Associa-tion, and there seems a wide-spread disbelief of Its effcctl v eness w hlle continuing con-tinuing along present lines. No one claims perfection for the piescnt plan of action, but still great good can be accomplished tinder the piescnt method if the farmeis will give a little lit-tle heed. To lllustiate the doubt In somcralndi and the ease with which that doubt can be dispelled we piescnt a conversation licaui the ot'icr pay. A practical farmer said to President Farrell: "If we people send In to jou the amount of wheat we have for sale and jou market It, I siippo-, jou will get two or three cfius a bushel commission, com-mission, won't JOu,,,' Mi. rnrrcll "No sliee! I nor anyone any-one else will get anj thing of the kind.. Farmer "Well, how arc you going' to make your living thenV" Mr. V. 'If jou'll listen, 111 tell vou. When Wellsvlllc farmers, and Hyrum farmeis,' and Lewlston farmeis, farm-eis, and thr-othei wheat ralscis of the county write In to the head of the Farmers Association that they have so much wheat for sale, wo know exactly how much there It in the county coun-ty that we can market at one time. The wheat buyers know that it is useless use-less for them to send their agents among tlie farmers to buy their wheat for they have pooled Interests and It Is only necessary for them to send one agent, and lie is to go to the head of tliQFarmeis Association. As a result, from ten to twenty cents more on a bushel can be secured than where the farmer sells his wheat Independently. The farmer vviio lias 1,000 bushels of wheat to sell saves $150, and I, who usually have 20,000 bushels for sale, make twenty times that amount. Tills is all the result of our combined efforts. Do jou see where 1 make my living?" The farmer saw, and said that if the Farmers Association did nothing more than to get the farmeis to glow wheat uniformly and market It altogether, alto-gether, It would save many thou sand of dollars to the farmers of the county. The disposition to believe that somebody some-body is going to get a rake-off should bo abandoned. |
