Show Th at Telephone Question. Kihtoh IluruiiMCAx: 1 lead with much Interest) our criticism on our Telephone Service In the last Issue of Tiik Kki'Uiilig'A.v. I believe that cveiy user of telephones hi this city Is in sympathy with what vou say,and If there is one public sum vice in this city that needs improvement, It Is the telephone service. Whether the fault la)svvlth the girls, with the telephones tele-phones or w Ith the management, does not concern the cltlens, but an up to date service in an up to date city, as we claim this Is, can be demanded. 1 am reminded of about a ) ear ago when the Utah Home Telephone Co. asked this city for a fianchlse and offered the city, besides free telephone, "1 pet-cent pet-cent of all Its gross earnings." They also claimed that "they would cut the present rale In two" and "Install an up to date service." In their circular letter to the citizens they stated: "The s)stem now In Logan Is out of date and has been abandoned byovcry progressive city In the U.S." Theyalso stated in this letter, "with the increase in-crease of population in cveiy city the Bell Telephone Co. have alwa)s advanced ad-vanced the rates. Not very long ago the rate In Salt Lake was $G0 per year for unlimited service. Now it Is $1)0 per year; an advance of CO per cent. 1'ou may expect the same treatment In Logan, as trusts are no respecters of persons so long as they are not held at check with rival companies." These quotations from lcttcis issued to tho citizens of Logan by the Homo Co.'Whentlieyvvoro .endeavoring to obtain a" franchise, comes home to us now In seveial wavs. In tho first place, our seivlce of late has been extremely pool. Useis aie invariably connected with wrong numbers, offended by Insulting words over tho phone, about half the time tlnd the line "busy", and I am creditably credit-ably Informed that Irresponsible, c tiemely )oung people are at times employ em-ploy ed lo do seivlce, which only ie-sponsible ie-sponsible people of age can be expected expect-ed to do. The Home Co. told us that the telephone pilce would increase. This prediction Is aheady veil lied. I am told that main in this city who have put into their homes telephones of late aiechaiged $1.50 per month, while those who have been using them fiom the beginning have them at the old price of $1.00. I fall to see any reason for this discrimination. wii) should some people In this town pay $1.50 and oth-eisl? oth-eisl? Docs this not mean that eic long In order to stop any complaint, the pilce will be $1.50 to all? In Salt Lake and In Ogden where wo have two up'to-date competing lines and wheic the connections aio many times those of Logan, the price to ever) one at their homes Is but $1 per month and the service is Indeed good. The City fatheis should consider this matter mat-ter of the Utah Home Co. They aie just opening their otllces In Salt Lake and Ogden with handsome new buildings build-ings owned by themselves and paying taxes on the same to the lespcctive cities and with a service supei lor 1 am told, to anything cither of the above cities have had bcfoic. Hoping this matter will be taken Into consld-ciation consld-ciation and that Logan will not bo tioubled with telephone seivlce as she has been with single lalhoad and single sin-gle electric line service In the past, I am, A Uskii. |
