Show Prof. Mitton Surprised Members of the First ward choir and friends worked up a grand surprise sur-prise on their esteemed leader Wednesday Wed-nesday night at the Tabernacle. The voting ladles In the choir are not only attlstlc singers, but artistic decora-toisaswell. decora-toisaswell. The rooms were decorated decor-ated with roses, carnations, orange blossoms and panslcs, the arrangement arrange-ment or rugs, stands, easy chairs, 'etc., being very artistic. A line progiam, consisting of comic songs, ducts, violin vio-lin piano and organ solos and leadings lead-ings was tendered, after which ic-freshmetits, ic-freshmetits, consisting of Ice cream, stiawbcrrlcsand cake were served In a beautifully decorated loom where M. ,1. Ilallaid acted as toast master. Toasts: "A Henpecked Husband," S. II. Mitton, 'Governing of a wait! choir," J. P Smith; "Future of First ward choir," Rlshop J. E. Cardon. "Effect of Singing on the People", Pres. Jos. Morrell. After lefieshments, Piof. U. M. Harris and S. F. Wilson furnished violin solos, rag-time, old-time and all-kinds-of-tlme music, whereupon Arthur Hatcson, who had been a liberal lib-eral donater of strawberries and Ice cream, had donned a mother hubbaid and waited upon the young lady waiters wait-ers who had been so faithful. He entered the room, and In connection with Mrs. Jane Thatcher, won first prize in the cake walk. There would have been a tic, but ex-Mayor Hansen refused to dance. Rro. Curtis was a close second. Little Miss Norma Harris, Har-ris, with her wonderful graphophone, was complimented on every hand, and icceived a beautiful bouquet or llovvers. This event will never be foigotten by Hi other Mitton and those piesent. It shows that the First ward and their choir uppieciate the clforts of their leader. Pror. Milton's heart and soul is all In music, and whenever he takes hold or a musical organization organiza-tion love, icspect, and success arc sure to follow. In his address he was almost al-most overcome with emotion and said he had the names of all who were present and would write them In his journal; that he would never forget tliN event as long as he lived.,,. |
