Show Kicks Either Way "The only" criticises the administration adminis-tration because It appointed a passive Republican as superintendent of the light system for ono year, and now It chides that superintendent for appointing ap-pointing as assistants such "sterling Democrats as A.' G. Barber, J. M. Blair, N. W. Kimball and A E. Cran- ncy." With the Journal It seems to be a of case you're "damned ifyou do, and damned If yon don't." Tho fact that Mr. Smith, Republican, appointed such "sterling" Democrats as the gentlemen named rather belles "the only's" assertions that everything ha been carried out on strict political lines, doesn't It? Mr. Smith and the administration, desiring to get the patronage of the citizens for the city plant cared nanght about politics and named the men who could work best for that plant, at least among Democrats. Demo-crats. Good Republicans could have been appointed, but In tho best interest inter-est of the plant Democrats were named. Is this the "politics" "the only" has been howling about. Tiik Rei-uiilican has not used the word "traitor" in regard to any mun who has failed to support the city plant, and certainly not against tho gentlemen gentle-men named and others who have supported sup-ported the city plant. "Tho only" is simply crazed with the strcnuosit of its effort to make material. |
