Show BOARD GIVES A. C. OF U. $26,288 Request Of The Trustees Granted In Full. Work of Rebuilding Is Already Begun. At a special meeting of the State Hoard of Examiners In Salt Lake city Wednesday afternoon, tho request of the Hoard of Trustees of the A. C. of U. for $2(1,283 to rebuild and equip tho recently destroved Mechanic Arts building was granted without quibble or faltering. Tho estimates of tho BOard of Trustees were gone over carefully and while It was generally understood that theso were exceedingly exceed-ingly conservatlc, the trustees asked only for the 2,28, and without hesitating hesi-tating tho Examiners met the emergency. emer-gency. The Hoatd of Kxamlners was fully aware of tho fact that the citizens of Logan and Cache Valley had already subscribed about $7,000 toward tills fund, but they held to the view entertained en-tertained by the people here, that tho Institution Is one belonging to the whole slate, and they Insisted on beaiing the entire burden as represented repre-sented in the tlgurcs of the Hoard of Trustees. There arc those in Logau who disliked dis-liked the Idea of the great mass meeting meet-ing and the subsequent subscription, believing that it showed lack of faith oreonlidonecin the Hoard of Examiners, Examin-ers, but It is extiemely gratifying that the Hoard seems to have taken no such view. It was agreed by the Hoaid that the State should bear the entire expense, but no word or sign leads to the belief that the members were affronted by, or failed to appreciate appre-ciate the whole-souled generosity of the people here. Instead It is report ed that Individual members of the Hoard expressed pleasure at the spirit of tho gift, though use for It was found to be Inadvisable. Work on the now buildings will be pushed with all speed possible. At the present time the debris is practically practi-cally removed, tho architects are llg-urlng llg-urlng on bids and in a very short time the actual work of construction will begin. For tho time being tho college authorities arc making the best of the situation, furnishing students m the Mechanic Arts department with somo equipment, and when the building build-ing Is begun somo of the more experienced experi-enced will be given practical experience experi-ence thereon. Affairs generally are moving along In a highly satisfactory way, and there is" evidence that this Inconvenience is only temporarly and will alfect tho success of the school year butsllghtly With the $7,000 Insurance the authorities authori-ties have $33,000 with which to rebuild and equip the burned buildings and while that is not all the money that can bo used to advantage, It will no doubt, answer immediate needs. , |
