Show NATION'S COAL OUTPUT. Annual Product Exceeds Three Hundred Hun-dred Million Tons. A preliminary statement showing tho coal production of tho United States, prepared by Edward W. Parker, Par-ker, statistician, has just been issued by tho United Stntcs geological survey. sur-vey. It shows that for tho first tlmo in tho history of tho United States tho production of coal has reached a total ot ovor 300,000,000 short tons, tho actual act-ual showing being 300, 930, OHO tons, valued at 1373,138,843. Tho production of anthraclto coal amounted to 3fi,87fi,710 long tons (equivalent to 41,299,039 short tons), a decrcaso ot 23,370,850 long tons, or almost 40 per cont, from 1901. This decreaso was duo entirely to tho suspension sus-pension of operations by U10 strlko In tho anthraclto region. The value at tho mines of tho anthracite product In 1902 amounted to ?81,01C,937, as against $112,u04,O2O In 1901. Tho avorago valuo of tho marketed coal sold during tho year at tho initios was 2.B0 per ton, tho valuo In 1901 having hav-ing been $2.05. |
