Show Church Choirs. The consideration shown tho Logan Tabernacle Choir while at Salt Lake last week, leads to tho question, "How much consideration and appreciation Is shown that same choir by thoso for whom It makes services delightful week after week and year after year?" We do not know, yet we havo not heard this organization made a great deal of, and In all probability It meets with the same " wc have a right to expect ex-pect It" disposition so frequently manifested man-ifested toward church choirs. Thoro BBBTVflHBflBBflBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBi seems a general disposition on the part of worshippers to believe that singing is Indulged in by the members of a choir merely because It Is dellght-rul, dellght-rul, and that each and every organization organiza-tion or singers Is simply a number of souls who have been Irresistibly drawn together because or a common desire to "make a Joyful noise" In unison. Few in the audiences which sit and listen to tho moro or less sweet harmonics har-monics that emanate rrom tho church choir ever dream that tho splendidly executed piece or music which thrilled their souls had been brought to a degree de-gree or perfection only by tho sacrifice of time, a great deal of hard work on the part of both singer and leader, and the exercise of much patience and study. Tho audience seldom considers that many nights of practice arc spent on a particularly pleasing production, and that in many instances singers must necessarily give up greater pleasures pleas-ures simply from a sense or duty to the choir and the audience. Choirs as a whole deserves every consideration that can be shown them, and especially such largo organizations organ-izations as the Tabernaclo choir. It Is one of the most dllllculb things in the world tbhold a small choir together togeth-er and got the best results, but when It comes to handling a largo organization, organiza-tion, the dltllculty Increases at a greater ratio. Tho leader of such organisations or-ganisations must necessarily be a man ol considerable executive ability, ho must be an organizer, ho must have tact and must exercise a patience equal to Job's. The singer must be willing to accept the part assigned him and always bo piesent whatever his other desires must be. Not only must he bo present at choir practice but also at each service there is no laying of! because of Indisposition; he must be ready to sacrifice any night for an extra practice and must also be ready to sing on special occasions whenever requested, and as a whole, while singing is usually a pleasure, the choir is held together more through a sense of duty and a desire to perform a trust well. The Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir is one that is accorded every consideration considera-tion and courtesy and is In a measure repaid for the sacrifices Its members must necessarily make, and why should not'the Logan Tabernacle choir become to Logan and Cache A'alley, what this, other organization is to Salt Lake. The Logan choir always renders thoroughly acceptable music and as a whole is a musical organization or more than ordinary ability. Not infrequently in-frequently does tho choir render exceptionally ex-ceptionally dilllcult music in a highly gratirying manner, and do the worshippers wor-shippers at the tabernacle ever consider con-sider what services would be witnout this choir? We have no doubt but that the people are really proud or the choir and are always delighted to hear Its music, but theic is something in expr-sslng that pride and appreciation. |
