To all appearances the "Jumping off place" of the earth Is at Kalgoorlle. And yet the richest square mile In the world Is at Kalgoorlle. Kal-goorlle. This barren desert of treasure li 400 miles Inland from tho town of Perth ln western Australia. Seven years ago gold was discovered there a rush for the desert territory was started and now there is a town of 35,000 people built up ln ha waterless water-less region. This square mile of treasure bearing bear-ing desert Is called the "Gold Mine" because of its reputation as being the richest gold bearing territory of its size on earth. Its reputation has been brought to this country by Rev. E. Gordon Savllo, who Is now on his way east from Vancouver. "Tho district was discovered some years ago," he said, "and now there are twelve gold miles at work on a largo scale snd about forty others doing a little. Tho output Is $2,200,-000 $2,200,-000 worth of gold every month. The miners live In Kalgoorlle. The gold Is found ln a reef of quartz formation. Some of the mines are now being worked at tho 2,000 foot level and the gold la found to be Just as rich as It was at the top. "In 1895 some miners prospecting near Ktmberley In tho north of the western Australian desert started south and found the reef. The news of the find spread, and there was a rush for the new territory. Miners poured ln at the rate of 2,000 a week and soon all the avallablo land was staked out In claims.
