Several hundred rose bushes have been planted In the space between tho sidewalk nnd property line, and only ono person has yet objected to this. This scheme for beautifying the. city has been tried on u small scale on several sev-eral street, but this movement on Thurman Thur-man street Is the first concentrated effort on a large scale In that line. Tho practicability of the scheme has been doubted by some, who Imngluc that dogs, horses, occasional stray cat-tlo cat-tlo and more espcclnly gangs of stray hoodlums, will bo likely to wreck or destroy the roso bushes, or, nt least, strip them of their blossoms, and prevent pre-vent them from becoming tho ornaments orna-ments Intended. According to Mr. Hoyt's statements, there Is no dnngcr of this, nnd the boys hnve been engnged to foster and protect pro-tect the bushes. It they fulfill this promlbo the good effect of the work on them In teaching them to respect the rights nnd property of others or of the public, and take n prldo In beautifying the city, will amply repay nil the cost of p'nutlng the bushes.
