Tho leading counsel for Singer in all his early trials soon became actively active-ly Interested as an equal partner in the business, lie having fully comprehended compre-hended at an early day the great value of the sewing machine as a factor In tho world's Industrial development. The Aim of I. M. Singer & Co. was soon formed. Its policy always contemplated con-templated the diffusion of the business busi-ness in every direction, following the most direct method of placing its products pro-ducts in the hands of the consumer. In 1858 it originated and Inaugurated the system of selling sew Ing machines on the icuting or Installment plan. This method has since been extended all over the world. By the year 1803 the annutil sales of Singer machines amounted to 20,00 and agencies 'were established in the principal cities of tho United States. In that j car the co-partnership of I. M. Singer and Co. was merged Into an Incorporated company, bearing the title of the Singer Manufacturing company, and both the original partners part-ners retired fiom the active management manage-ment of the business.
