Show That the progress of tho world In all lines Is phenomenal at tills time, needs no greater evidence than the statement that Armour & Co. of Chicago Chic-ago have discovered a means and established a plant for the fastening of chickens by machinery. The method employed Is a most novel one and lias been tried with great success. The old theory that "you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink" has been exploded so far as live poultry Is concerned, lly the new process they not only lead the chick to the feed, but they also foice him to take it Into his Intel lor, and best of all, he fattens on It. The chickens arc fed one at a lime by machinery. The food used Is especially prepared and Is composed largely of cereals. It is in liquid form and Is 'forced Into the fowls through the bill by a high prcssmc. As soon as they arc fed the fowls arc put In a dark room, so that they will not, by running run-ning around, lose their llcsh. They are kept in this loom excepting during dur-ing the feeding time. Ten das are all that aio inquired to make what was a poor, lean chicken a plump, fat fowl. When this scheme Is perfected to such an extent that human fence rails can bo cpnveited Into plump and sightly individuals in ten days, tho supply of the apparatus will never equal the demand. |
