There have been mlnlsteis and elders In the senate bcfoid now and we have not heard that any great evil ever befell the senate on their account, nor do we anticipate any great calamity calam-ity will follow If Mr. Smoot Is elected. Mr. Smoot Is notaltogctherourcholce. There are other Republicans that wc would rather have seen elected. Still wo believe he will be chosen for the reason that there seems to bo a feeling feel-ing abroad in the State that a Mormon Mor-mon should be sent to the senate, and Mr. Smoot is the only member of the church to announce his candidacy. It will be a good thing for the State when the question of a man's belief will cease to bo a bar to his political picferment. |
