Show COLLEGE WORK STRENGTHENED AT THE BIG SCHOOL ON THE HILL Tho board of trustees of the Utah Agricultural collogo mot Tuesday and Wednesday ln tho office of Lorenzo N. Stohl, president of tho board. At this meeting a number of important items woro tukou up, ono of tho main results of tho meeting being to establish estab-lish short practical courses ln agriculture, agri-culture, homo economics, commerce and mechanic arts, tho nlm of thcio courses being to directly Borvo the peoplo of the state. These courses are simply an organization organi-zation of tho work which has been done by tho Institution for mnny years. To these courses will bo admitted any applicant of mature years or any student stu-dent who has taken a certain amount of public school work. A general ro-port ro-port was mado of tho condition of the collogo work, tho registration showing that thoro has been a distinct Increase ln attendance of tho higher college classes and a distinct decrease in tho lower standing classes. This Is1 duo to tho high school movement throughout through-out tho stato among other things. Another An-other decision on tho part of the board was to begin eliminating In 1914 tho high school work. During tho year 1914 and 1915 tho first year high school work, will bo eliminated, ln 1915 and 191C tho second year will bo eliminated and so on until tho entire high school courso as It at tho present time exists, will not bo given. It was also decided to Increase tho number of hours required for graduation, gradu-ation, thus Intensifying tho collego course. It was reported at this meeting meet-ing that tho total attendance of tho collego had reached 1,366. Mention vnB mado also of tho practical completion com-pletion of tho Smart gymnasium which will bo opon for work during tho Bum-mer Bum-mer school. Tho power plant at tho mouth of the canyon will also bo In operation boforo tho school year opens next fall.
