This book contains all ordinances ordi-nances of a general nature, la force Feb. 10, 1008, the rules of tho city eouncll adopted January 8, 1008, ail franchises and grants of a general nature, na-ture, and an exceptionally well ar,-ranged ar,-ranged index. 100 of these are Issued In paper binding and will probably be sold, 2T arc In cloth binding and 2.'i in sheep. ' TJie "Relsed Ordinances" are In much better shape than any preceding pre-ceding book of the kind, having been skillfully compiled and arranged by City Attorney J. A. Sneddon, who has been at the work since February 20, 100", when their publication .was authorbed. Mr. Sneddon followed the general Idea of the state statutes, Introduced certain noticeable, little advantages of his own, and In the hands of such skillful printers as are at the Smith establishment the book evolved Is oneof real beauty and splendid splen-did service. Thn work involved in the compilation, revision and arrangement of this mass of legal affairs has been nothing small. Mr. Sneddon gathered the ordinances together from evory nook and cranney, carefully perused them, suggested minor changes and presented them to tho council committee com-mittee appointed to do the revising, and then these gentlemen wrestled with them until their heads ached, This phase of tho work alone occupied many nights. Finally all the uork was turned back to Mr. Sneddon and lie piocdeded to arrange them foi publication. pub-lication. The writer knows enough about preparing copy to know that the city attorneys work was neither easy nor small, also that the llnal result re-sult Is highly commendable to him and, the printer. Mr. Sneddon adopted adopt-ed an Improved system of division, chaptering, continuous section numbers, num-bers, and. a new Index, and thereby secured se-cured a uniformity not wholly common to books of this kind. The language Is also made uniform and grammatical construction is Improved. Mr. Sneddon Sned-don acknowledges assistance 'from Attorney.!. C. Walters and various private citizens. |
