Show Had Big Celebration PROVIDENCE, July 27.-Provl-dence.llke most other towns of the valley, had a big celebration on Pioneer Pion-eer day. The day's events started with the firing ot cannon at 2 a. m. and continued till sunrise. The brass band woke the people up to the spirit otthe day by giving some excellent music. At 10 a. m. an excellent program pro-gram was rendered In the meeting house. The Mutual choir sang some appropriate selections. The program went oft very smoothly. In the afternoon games and sports of all kinds were participated in. The Jumping and running sports were closely contested and afforded fine amusement. The south end lost to the north end In the tug ot war. The boxing contest In barrels was novel while the walking raco was really funny. Twenty men began tho race but only ono finished. The ball game between tho married and single men was won by the former. The grand ball In the evening ended the day's activities. Mrs. Ethel Duoky Is very ill with lockjaw. It Is thought she will recover. |
