Show Beet Culture In Bear River Valley Prof. W. W. McLaughlin made a trip to Salt Lake yesterday for the purpose of collecting data relative to beet growing In Bear River valley. This data Is being collected for the Agricultural department at Wash logton, D, 0. Mr. McLaughlin lias some very interesting figures which show the average yield and the cost of production of beets in the Bear River valley. In 1003 the average yield was 7.85 tons per acre. In 1004 the average yield was 11.75. On account ac-count of tho white lly plague in 1005 the yield fell to 0.01 tons. This season sea-son with what data is at hand the avcrago yield will probably bo 10 tons. This gradual Increase Is due to better methods of farming. The cost of producing beets in this same valley Is $32 per acre exclusive of hauling. From this it Is easy to determine the profits to the beet grower. |
