On Friday evening the Young Ladies Mutual Association of the First wnrd gave a bouquet in tlie meeting meet-ing house for all those who had labored to beoutify the grounds and surroundings. A very nico program was rendered, after which a delicious lunch was served, serv-ed, which the people appreciated very much. Bishop Miles congratulated con-gratulated the peoplo on tho good work they had done, and tho god spirit that was in the ward. IP also thanked every one that had taken part. After this the (hrong went to the opera house wliero all enjoyed themselves in i donee, tho ladies doing the "boosing. There were somi woll flowers, but all seemed to enjoy themselves. 90 numbers were sold, being a very largo dance for this time of the eyar. Jess and David Baker, of Men-don, Men-don, are visiting Virgil Morrill. Mr. .Baker, who has just return- cd from a mission in England, addressed ad-dressed the Saints of the Second ward Sunday afternoon. Miss Jennie Taylor, of Salt Lake, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Virgil W. Merrill. Miss May Lemons, of Salt Lake is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lemons. Mr. and Mrs. Tliomas II. Crag-heud Crag-heud have returned to Smithfield from Idaho, where they hive been the last two years. Frank Covey has left the Condensed Con-densed Milk factory at Richmond on account of poor health". He will build here in tho near future. John Covey's homo had a narrow. nar-row. escape from destruction by fire last week. He discovered smoke coining through the gables , and when he broke through with an as found the loft nil ablaze. With the assistance of his wffe and plenty of water ho succeeded in putting it out with but slight damage. ( Mrs. Laura Fishburn returned to Brigham, having received word that her husband was seriously seri-ously ill. Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Smith returned re-turned Saturday morning from a trip through tho Snako river country. A very painful accident happened hap-pened to thel ittlc daughter of Mrs. Carl Neilson. Sho got her finger caught in a folding bed and it was so'badly crushed that it was necessary to take tho finger .off this morning. John M. Bain has gone to Salt up Lake on business connected with the grist mill. A surprise was given Mrs. J. B.. Shorten on Friday evening, it being her birthday. The evening was spent in games, singing and speeches. Many kind words were indulged in. Mr. a lid Mrs, Peal, of La Grande,. Oregon is here visiting 'relatives, the Griffiths. Tl'ioy urc very much impressed with Smith-field Smith-field and the people, and if thoy can purchase a place to suit them they will locate here. On Monday evening, the 25th, there was a very nice surpriso prty given Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thornley at their home on Center 6trcct. About twenty-ftvo couples wero present, and there was everything ev-erything good to eat that ono could think of. Tho evening was , spent in singing, reciting, speeches, and telling funny stories. stor-ies. All report having had a good timo. Space'will not permit of giving the names or thoso present. Babies was born iS week to Mrs. A. B. Chambers, Mrs. James Roskelley, Mrs. Blanch Nielsen Bonnion, and last, but not least, to Bishop Winn's wife. This makes twelve boys and ono girl I for the Bishop. |
