Show Halloween Affair at Smithfield I Young Ladies Give Swell Affair. Acci- I dents, and the Comings and Goings. I SM1THFIKLD, Nocmbcr2. ltwii.-Mlss ltwii.-Mlss Nellie Pilgrim, Miss Nellie Weeks and Miss Glayds Farroll entertained a party of girl friends at the Farrcll home, on Main street, at a Hallowe'en party on Wednesday evening. The two front parlors were very tastefully decorated with autumn leaes. .om-fodder .om-fodder and apples. One of the" rooms was deoted to fortuno telling, the gypsy room. Tho gypsy tent was placed in ono corner, the walls covered with blackcats and other emblems of the necrnmantlo art. The only lights permitted per-mitted were Jack o' lanterns and candles, can-dles, and the effect was weird In the extreme. Tho guests supplied their own costumes of whlto sheets and black masks. On arriving, thoy assembled In the parlor and guessed who each one was. The apple contest came next and was the source of Immense fun. Apples were tied to strings, suspended from tho celling and had to be eaten as they hung. Zlna Mathers won the prize. Mrs. Carlisle had ajready taken possession pos-session of her room and acted tho part of tho fortune-telling gypsy to perfection. perfec-tion. Nuts were tacked on a white sheet, each containing a horoscope. As tho guests opened their choice, they read aloud the horoscope and many amusing character leadings resulted. Refreshments wero served at a late hour and wcrcvery much enjoyed by all. They wero served on vegetables cabbage cab-bage leaves, squash, potatoes, turnips, and apples bolng hollowed out and utilised as dishes, The whole evening was one round of pleasure and fun, and everyone entered into the spirit of the occasion with thorough enjoyment enjoy-ment Those Vrosent were: Mrs. Carlisle or llenson ward, Mrs. Maggie Iloskcl-Icy.
