Show Franklin Mines on Boom "Big Four," "Alice," and the "Gridiron" Claims Are Rich In Copper. Five minutes (fl o'clock a.m. Oct. 31, 11)0(1. Franklin copper mines, Ma-plo Ma-plo Creek, Idaho. Gihtou Looan Itisrunr.iCAN: It Is not Inopportune to say that Franklin Is soon to become a shipping station for tho copper ores of Ma plo Creek. The rich red ores of tho camp assay from twenty-tlyo per cent copper ud to slstv-Hvo per cent of tho red metal, and heavy molochltc ores is a feature of tho camp. Tho Solloy mine, located In August a year ago, has a line showing for a big mine. It has lately been Incorporated Incorpor-ated at SoO.OOO. as tho "lllg Four Mining Min-ing company.'Mn which John Gayman, of Franklin, Is president, and his son, Ernest, Is secretary. John Llndsay.of lilackfoot, Is vice president. These ores occur In barlte, capped with dolomite lime, and there is a great reef of red quart, running through tho country, which appears to be tho foot wall of- all mineral deposits de-posits of the country from Smlthtlcld canyon north to Hear rlvor, some twenty-live miles In extent. There are lino veins of this barlte, and when tho country Is properly explored it will bo a lead producer In great quantities, quan-tities, as well as u copper country. There are now about two car loads of ore out on the "Big Four" property ready for shipment. The Inclined shaft Is down about fifty feet at the mine now being worked, and the ores are being hoisted with a horse and pulley-bucket gear. The company has set aside a good share of the stock for development work fund, and aro selling sell-ing It at ten cents a share. This is very low considering the qualities qf the ore and It Is not likely that the stock will stand long at that price. Thoro aro mines here that when opened will show plenty of ore for a smelter. O, D. Heach. of Logan, dropped Into a Una claim through the Cornish boys-a mountain of ore j"7" called tho "Alice" mine. They have done a lot of work within the last year and have an immense hill of ore in the mine up Crooked canyon, south of Maplo Creek. .1. J. Hill, tho merchant of Franklin, Frank-lin, has ,i half-Interest In seven claims called tho "Gridiron group", The cropplngs of the ores in these claims Is mostly ted copper ores in heavy veins of barlte. Altogether, the outlook Is favorable for a good camp when developed enough to show the capitalists and business men that here is a placo to operate In copper mines lined up against ton thousand wheat farms of the great Cacho Valley, and numerous numer-ous towns In lino of the raliroad, and the country well situated with water and timber on the mining claims now taken. This Is an opportunity seldom met with for conveniences In a mining camp. J. S. Feuiiis, Prospector for forty years. |
