James Baker of the Royal Geograph ical society gives this llttlo story of s Greek saint: "Our good St. Blaziot that gave us -tlio phraso' 'drunk ai Blazes;' for this saint was pleasantly dono to death by having his flesh torn off by wool combs, and bo he became the patron of tho English wool combers; comb-ers; and as a high feast was kept up on his day, and tho people who fro quented the feast were called Blazors, so tho saying grew into the English tonguo and remains there fixed and useful." |
