Of course the woman ex'p-cled the Colonel n apologize, Just as did everybody else who heard her givo a mouselike squeal when tho Colonel's foot came down. And sho 1 '-cd as V ugh she expected ex-pected an qpology, hut tho Colonel, divining her thought, doffed his hat and said: "No, mndam, I'm not going to apologize. When tho good Lord was so gracious os.to make ,woraen so beautiful and charming and with such wonderfully small feet that a man has to tramp o- them to find them, then I don't thlult that nn npol-og-" Tho compliment was, too graceful for tho woman to resist, nd ull that followed was a smiling acknowledge mentt'af tho Colonel's gallant speech.
