Show Grand Jury Endorses Work of Mob. Judge James M. Thompson in opening open-ing the district court in Washington parish, Louisiana, Wednesday, the scene of the recent burning of a negro at the stake, followed by a riot at Balltown, where several lives were lost, called the attention of thegrand jury to these occurrences and urged it to take action. The grand jury, however, how-ever, brought in the following report: "The men who participated in the burning were among the best citizens of the county, and nothing but a desire to protect those who are nearest and dearest to them would move them to undertake such measures." |
