Show News ofittie Social World The reception given by the Beacon ; Light Society at the Brigham Young college Thursday Thurs-day evening was a brilliant event. The guests assembled in the chapelat 8.30. when the programme pro-gramme was rendered, as prepared. pre-pared. It comprised a beautiful piano solo by Mr George Curtis; ah eloquent address of welcome by President Fannie Vernor.; -a lovely vocal selection by Mrs. Anna B. Phillips; an address on "Women and the club'' by Mrs. N. E. Clemenson, that was a brilliant literary effort; a charming solo by Prof. W. O. Robinson, and a humorous reading read-ing by Miss Virginia Bush. Thereafter refreshments, games and other pastimes were enjoyed until midnight. The prize for the best drawing was won by L. K. Martineau, whose effort was a most amusing portrait of the new woman. The artistic efforts of President Kerr, President Linford, Miss Amy Larson, Prof. Hall, Mrs. George Smith, Miss Leah Bush, and others, were voted excellent drawings. Those present were Messrs. and Mesdames T. -H. Linford, W. J. Kerr, Weston Vernon, L. R. Martineau, J. P. Miller, Geo. Smith, Mosiah Hall, Leo Campbell, Camp-bell, W. O. Robinson, Fred Cates, L. J. Goodrich, Kemp, H. Bullen, Jr., E. T. Hyde, Mesdames Mes-dames P. C, Jensoa, n. E, Clemenson, Clem-enson, Jane Thatcher, Anna. B. Phillips, Jennings, MisSC: Tillie Peterson, Louise Wangs-gard, Wangs-gard, Lulu Carpenter, Virginia and Leak Bush Am3T Larsen, Rose Homer, Robinson, Maggie Smith, Messrs Davis, George Curtis, C. H. Skidmore, and others. Mr. and Mrs.' John A. Hend-ricksos Hend-ricksos and daught c Irene left for New York Thursday morning morn-ing on an extended , visit combining combin-ing business and pleasure.. We wish 4;hem.a-plesaant trip. . The teachers and pupils of the Benson school will give h en-tertainment en-tertainment and reception at the' Benson Fourth ward meeting house Saturday evening, May 23d. Elaborate preparations are being made for the affair. Miss Effie Nebeker has returned re-turned from an extended visit in alt Lake. Poslmaster Robert Murdock and Miss Jennie Murdcck spent a portion of the week in the state capital. The graduating class of the Agricultural college were entertained enter-tained at the home of Prof, and Mrs. J, F. Engle Monday evening, even-ing, by Misses Grace and Martha Mar-tha Fisher. The evening was most enjoyably spent with re freshments, games and other pastimes.. The guests .were M!sses Maughan,' Stephenson, Caine, Thomas, West, Raymond and Fisher, and Messrs. Caine, Nebeker, Fisher, Pyle Callister, Homer, Merrill and Moore. At 6 o'clock Thursday evening an elaborate dinner was given at the Lincoln hotel by the teachers of the Benson school, Mrs. Kerr, and Misses Simons, Erickson, Egbert, Baker, ' Sorenson, Stover and Clemens, in honor of Misse s Effie Morehead and Delia Torgeson,' who " have resigned their positions with the Logan schools- |
