Tho road was vory dim and whon night camo wo wero In a swamp whoro nobody hut negroes lived or could llvo. Wo, woro hurrying on to soma white pooplo and lost tho road. It was about eleven o'clock but wo walked on until wo camo to a rivor, but alas, thore was no bridge, so wo spread sotuo pnpnrs down on tho bank and with tho clear blue sky for a roof wo lay down and slopt. We walked until noon only passing ono whlto houso and at that placo thoy refused to give us broakfast so wo thanked them kindly and wont on.
