The executive committee com-mittee of the Cuban assembly agreed at its last session to mako It compulsory compul-sory on thu part of any Cuban officer insulted by Spanish, American or other officers, to challenge the person so Insulting In-sulting to fight a duel. The measure has two alms, according to tho Cubans, first "to maintain tho dlgntly of the Cuban Brmy," and secondly "to oheck tho Impudenco and lusolcuco of many so-called Cuban officers, who, without having over put their courage to a lest, having enlisted after tho armistice, armis-tice, aro swaggering about with Cuban uniforms, endeavoring to offend Spanish Span-ish officers'" It Is learned on good authority that tho Cubans havo recently seerotly acquired ac-quired quite a formldablo armament, ho ulterior object of which Is not known, It is added that thoy havo purchasscd over 8,000 rifles within tho last ton days. Tho fact is causing considerable con-siderable speculation here. |
