Show I POLITICS IN LEHI. A Democratic rally was held In the Lehl Opera Houso on Monday evening". After music by tho Silver Band, Mr. J. B. Gaddle Chairman, introduced Hon. J. W. Judd who was greeted with cheers. The speaker set forth somo of tho vltnl principles of Democracy, and reviewed re-viewed tho different forms of government govern-ment now existing. He compared Sovereignity Sove-reignity with Democracy nnd explained explain-ed in n clear manner tho Hamlltonlan and Jeffersohlan ideas of government, The speaker then gave, a brief explanation explan-ation of the forco bill and its intentions. The tnrrif question was next dealt with Inn very interesting manner. A declaration declar-ation o principles adopted by the Democratic De-mocratic convention held in Salt Lake city on June 22 was then read and commented com-mented on. Select music was then rendered ren-dered by the Sliver Band. The Hon. F. 8. Richards was then introduced who said that his forefathers had been Democrats De-mocrats and that ho was n Democrat too. Ho dwelt briefly on tho Utah commlsion and the evils growing out of it. The force bill and tho tariff question was somewhat humorously dwelt upon, the speaker being frequently greeted with cheers. Ho believed that machinery machin-ery was doing moro for tho people than tho tariff could ever do. Ho then gave a gTaphlc dlscrlption of the two National Nation-al parties and their platforms and principles prin-ciples and wound up by advising all to study up the political situation so as to bo able to mako an intelligent choice, A vote of thanks was given tho speakers nnd the meeting was sdjourned. The Democratic Club of Lehl met as per call for the purpose of selecting delegates dele-gates to attend tho Convention at Provo, June 21th 1801, with a view of effecting a county organization. The secretary was instructed to writo out credentials, after which the meeting adjourned to Thursday. KEM'BLICAN RALLY, On Thursday evening, the 21th inst., tho Lehl Republicans held a grand rally In. the Opera house Mr. J. D. Wines, chairman, and Mr. S. W. Jtoss, Secy. Mr. Geo. Sutherland, of Provo was the first speaker. Ho said that it was time that the old parties were done away with nnd that tho national parties had como to stay. He asked tho people not to be prejudiced in their conclusions; but thoroughlyinvestigato tho principles of both parties, and then, act according to their convictions. Mr. Sutherland spoko at great length upon the tariff question nnd showed that high tariff had n tendency to lower prices on goods that can bo manufactured iu this country instead in-stead of advancing them. Mr. Baelow Feroxsok of Salt Lake stated some of the reasons why he was n republican. Whitecotton, Provo, in his usual humorous, but nt tho snmo time convincing modo of talking gave some figures showing that on an average wages werenearlydoublo in this country with high tariff, what they arc in free Made England, and also that the staple articles of food and clothing were but a very little dearer. At tho clow of the meeting the Republican Re-publican roll was signed by a great number num-ber and n club was formed with Mr. J. D. Wines as president; Mr. W.E.
