Show LANGUAGE CIRCLE AGAIN TO ORGANIZE They Represent the Modern Method of Teaching Foreign Tongues Now that the football seaS sea'S season season on has ended leaving leaving leaving leav leav- ing the students with more leisure time the language circles are reorganizing In their comparatively comparatively com brief existence these circles have proved themselves of inestimable value as a help to master the languages To new students their importance cannot be overstated The informal meeting where the student learns the tongue in inthe inthe inthe the natural way picking up words almost unconsciously unconsciously unconsciously breathing in the spirit of the language does not admit of comparison with the formal recitation recitation reci tation where every word is acquired with conscious conscious conscious con con- mental and physical effort It is prat practically impossible to learn to speak a foreign tongue in the class room but here where English is tabooed and the foreign language alone is spoken even the shyest student forgets his fear and overcome by the infectious spirit chatters in spite of himself The pity is that we have only three of these circles two modern French and German and one ancient Latin In addition to these we need at least two more a Spanish and an Italian Let us hope that through the earnest co operation of new and old students the circles during the year will materially increase both in number and pow power r. r The officers of the French circles for 1911 11 have ave been elected They are united in their deSire desire desire de de- sire to bring under the helpful influence of the Club every student of French in the University The officers are President Edna Cohn vice- vice president Catherine Richards secretary Lily King treasurer Horace Higgs The first meeting of the year will be held Thursday December 14 at 7 o'clock at the home of the president Miss Edna Cohn East South Temple street The officers urgently invite every student interested in French n O |
