Show o u oPEN uPEN PEN NOW A STUDENT ACTIVITY Worthy Publication at I- I Last st on a Firm Basis By a large majority vote at the Student Body meeting last Friday the University Pen offic officially ally became one of our student activities About four years ago the growth of our institution demanded something more of the school paper than that it be merely a High School monthly bi-monthly containing a awell awell awell well compiled smattering of news jokes and stories So the Chronicle came to be an enlarged weekly news sheet of developed interests but narrowed scope scope The la lack k of means for placing before the school the literary effort of many thoroughly thoroughly thoroughly thor thor- capable and earnest students was wars felt with deep regret And Aud it was to en encourage the efforts efforts efforts ef ef- forts of our students who are interested in things literary that t the Scribblers and the Order of the Gleam de decided to publish the Pen jointly In Janu January ry 1909 the first issue appeared Soon it became evid evident nt that the he Pen reached its readers through important channels of wide in in- terest It proved to be a favorable influential factor in maintaining and furthering the high scholasticism of composition A y year ar or s so ago the editorial board endeavored to have the he Pen re recognized as a student activity which should be represented on the A A. S. S U. U U. U board However there we were e so few among us us who took an active interest in the affair and recognized the mutual advantages to be gained by the move that not enough students voted to make the action legal Now that the Pen has the support of the Student Student Stu Stu- dent Body there is no reason why it should not make rapid strides Every student should be eager to contribute his very best literary effort for publication in the U Pen which is now with us to stay and to flourish |
