I For the Redmen it continued their undefeated string to 22, but I more importantly it got Coach I Dick Hobbs and his hoop squad i off and running on a winning i nte' The visiting Wildcats came to ? i Cedar City with a strong con- tingent from their last year's f sijuad which was a tough com- petitor in the State Class 2A tournament, j It was expected that Richfield would give the Redmen a real I test to open the season, and they certainly did. As a matter of fact the visiting Wildcats took advantage of their j superior height to take an early lead in the game and it was not j until late in the first quarter that i the Redmen could catch the Wildcats. It came on a bucket from Charles Judd tieing the score at 14 all. It was again knotted at 16 all before the Redmen could get the lead at 18-16 18-16 just at the end of the period. Richfield controlled the boards ! early in the game and six foot I: nine, Welby Jensen hit for nine ; points, all underneath in the first ! ; period of play. Some fine outside shooting by ; the Redmen, placed by Scott i ' Burns, Brad Blackner and Steve Hair, broke the Redmen loose ' from a 26-26 deadlock midway in the second period and the Redmen took charge of the game moving to a 41-36 advantage at the intermission. The visiting Wildcats fell apart somewhat in the third period of play as the Redmen continued to score well from outside. Defensively the Redmen ad-; ad-; justed to the Richfield height, and for the exception of a fast break by Richfield, the Redmen dominated the action. In the fourth period Kim Neilson lent support on the lllls I'KOM OL'TSIDE.Scott Burns, talented guard for the Cedar High School Redmen does what he does best - score from outside. Here he hits over the outstretched arms ot Bryant Henrue ot Richfield. Rich-field. Redmen won season opener against Wildcats 83-70. boards and added four points to the cause and starter Brent Foley came back into the lineup after Judd had fouled out late in the third period, and added seven points to the cause. Leading scorer on the floor was Scott Burns with 23. He was followed by Blackner with 19 and Hair with 18 for the Redmen. Tops for the Wildcats was Scott Brown with 20 with Jensen adding ad-ding 19. Jensen hit nine for nine from the foul line.
