Show SUSC selected as project site by National Foundation Southern Utah State College has been named one of four colleges in the intermountain states to host 1974 Leadership Specialist Projects under the National Science Foundation. Intermountain science " educators will attend SUSC July 8 through August 2, the second session of summer school, for training in the implementation of new science materials in elementary (and junior high schools. LSP will utilize SUSC faculty members in the physical and biological science departments. The program is designed to train individuals or teams of educational personnel - key teachers, principals, supervisors, super-visors, personnel from state departments of education, and college faculty members -- in the implementation of the new course materials. Dr. Russell D. Anderson, SUSC zoology professor and director of the SUSC project, said that NSF grants are available to cover instruction, travel and lodging expenses of participants, "College credit wijl be available for the project," he said.' " " SUSC programs,, funded for $24,152, will deal primarily with the physical and biological sciences and include "Elementary Science Study," for grades kindergarden through ninth; "Science--A Process Approach," for kindergarden through sixth grades; and, "Science Curriculum Improvement Im-provement Study," for grades one through six. The SUSC grant is part of $3.2 million awarded by NSF to 63 colleges, universities, and nonprofit organizations for Leadership Specialist Projects. It is the only such grant awarded in Utah. The projects are open to educators throughout the country and are part of NSF's pre-College Instructional Improvement Implementation Program. |
