Show City Council moveson phase two three for Canyon Park Cedar City Council in meeting Thursday evening approved the second phase of the canyon park development and tentatively committed to the third phase of development for next year, according ac-cording to Michael Embley, Cedar City manager. The second phase of the development will include principally prin-cipally lighting, some additional planting, fencing and work on the creek bank. Based on the council's approval of the second phase of development an application ap-plication is being formulated for submission to the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation for participation par-ticipation funds. Anticipated cost on the second phase of the development is $70,000. If approved by the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation they would participate 50 per cent, or $35,000, Embley indicated, in-dicated, i Hopefully, the second phase can be approved and completed during the current calendar year. The third phase, tentative approved, ap-proved, would be scheduled for 1975 and would be in a near equal amount of $70,000, he said. In other action of the council they approved a contractors agreement with the State Division of Family Services. The contract provides that Cedar City Corporation wilf provide work opportunities, wherever possible, for referrals from the department. depart-ment. The city would further be responsible to train such personnel, per-sonnel, but wages for the referrals would be paid by the Family Services division. It is anticipated that work op portunities will be approved in m maintenance of parks, cemetery and the golf course with some opportunities to be provided on special projects with the street departments. Embley also reports that the Council took under consideration and authorized a feasibility study, in cooperation with Iron County, for remodeling of the City and County building in Cedar City to provide for additional ad-ditional office space. Embley indicated that attempts will be made to possibly close some hallway space, remodel the jail area to provide an additional three offices to meet the combined com-bined needs of the city and county. The Council was advised that extensive vandalism has been reported on no parking signs located on College Avenue. After a review the council authorized the signs to be removed but that curbs will be, and are marked, for no parking. The action was taken to help eliminate the vandalism problem on the highly congested area, but does not recind the no parking requirements. The council indicated in-dicated that the area will continue con-tinue to be patrolled and that , citations will be issued for those in violation of the no parking requirements. A report was also made to the council by a committee preparing a : proposed dog ordinance or-dinance for Cedar City. The committee reported progress on the ordinance proposal and indicated in-dicated that it will be prepared for presentation at the council meeting scheduled March 7. |
