Show Students complete Marathon Run to Salt Palace for March of Dimes 5q 0Z, BR " ft hIF imo I, ;d - 1 ,$ AM " II g i'-ij i ml The annual March of Dimes Marathon completed their 320 mile run to the Salt Palace on Sunday, February 1 where they met with the Telerama production for the fight against . birth defects. Sterling Church, Dean of Students, was the first runner to start the March of Dimes Marathon run of Cedar Canyon Road, U 14, which departed Southern Utah State College on Friday, January 30 at noon following a pep assembly in their honor. The faculty members were the first runners, each running one mile jaunts. Tim Anderson, original con-ceiver con-ceiver of the Marathon for the March of Dimes, gave the opening speech at the pep assembly ceremony held in the Recital Hall at SUSC. Anderson is a former graduate of SUSC and is presently a law student attending at-tending Brigham Young SUSC March of Dimes Marathon Runners met Vernal High Runners at Lehi coming up U 89, and continued up U 68 through Riverton and South Jordon onto 90th South arriving at the Salt Palace at 2:30 p.m., their scheduled arrival. Runners were protected from traffic by the Salt Lake City Jeep Patrol following behind them in the city limits. The runners were greeted with a warm enthusastic 'rah for runners' cheering them on to the Salt Palace. Frankenstein, Winnie the Pooh, and Tiger too, were part of the Telerama entertainment. en-tertainment. MC Cloris Leech-man Leech-man was in charge of the Telerama in Salt Lake City. Some of the University of Utah runners couldn't make their runs from Moab to Thistle Junction, so SUSC track team members, Dave Houl, Curtis Lang, Steve Shoell, Joe Rust, and Steve Palmer took over after already completing their 10 mile jaunts, earlier in the weekend run. They ran a total of more than 35 miles . each at the end of the marathon. Panguitch citizens cheered the runners on as they came through town, and police helped arrange for gas refills, since gas stations were all closed on Sunday. Two elderly women ran through Richfield with the Marathon runners, adding to support the March of Dimes run. Bessie Dover was the advisor for the canvasses in Cedar City. Steve Fillinger and Lyle Anderson, An-derson, Marathon Activities Chairmen, would like to give special thanks to these advisors for the trip to Salt Lake; Boyd Redington, Dean Church, Les and Kim Jones, Rex Mitchie, Rich Carlson, Professor S. S. Moorty, Ken Bensen . and Maureen Robb. They would also like to extend their gratitude to Lunt Motor Company for donating the use of a van to transport the runners. Food was furnished by Lin's Foods, Safeways and Albertsons. AT MARCH OF DIMES TELERAMA.
