Show LETTER TO THE EDITOR Editor: Much has been said and done by politicans, federal, state and local, by editors, reporters and commentators - both radio and TV -- and through letters to the editors, pertaining to the Kaiparowits Project in southern Utah. This project is an economic issue -- a bread and butter issue to those people who live in the affected area. The completed project would bring jobs, new businesses and economic stability to an area that has long been economically depressed and deprived. The people in Utah, according ' to published statistics, have a per capita income of $4005.00 (1973). They own, as land owners, less than 20 percent of the land in the state. Of the 84,916 square miles of land area that makes up the" . State of Utah, more than 80 percent, or approximately 70,000 square miles, belongs to the federal and state and local governments, from which no tax is derived. Of the approximately 20 percent of land in the state of Utah that is privately owned, 25 percent of this amount is used up by cities and town developments of home, businesses, etc. From this meager lease, the property owner and taxpayers are called upon to support and pay for schools, roads, hospitals, and other public services in the state, counties and cities. In addition, Utah citizens, workers and businesses contribute a heavy tax from their meager $4005.00 per Capita incomes, to support and maintain myriads of bureaucrats, ;state and federal; the good, the bad and the ugly -in the manners in which they have become accustomed, without regard to the burden upon the taypayers and producers. Then, to add insult to injury, the "environmentalists, back packers, river runners, coyote lovers, sunset watchers, etc," mostly from the eastern and The Fund for Animals 140 West 57th St. New York, N. My dear ' fellow taypayers and property owners, the following is a partial list of the here-to-fore, anonymous "environmental groups" who have been wrecking our economy, robbing you of jobs and businesses, increasing your cost of living, harassing businesses and manufacturers with unreasonable restrictions, the costs of which are passed on to the consumer. Stand up and be counted ! Write to them! To your county commissioners, com-missioners, your governor, senators and legislators, to you editors and especially to your representatives in Washington, D. C. These groups are well financed by tax free foundations such as the Rockefeller Foundation, Carnegie Foundation, Wildlife Federation Friends and the United Nationals - whose funds are all Tax Free - and unlimited. These people have bureaucrats such as the Environmental Protection Agency, Bureau of Land Management , National Park Service, an assortment of our Congressmen and Senators in Washington in their pockets, with unlimited retainer fees for lawyers with no conscience. You farmers, ranchers, laborers, management, businessmen, home owners, manufacturers, all taxpayers, deserve to be ripped off if you won't fight for your rights. Here is the list of those groups that are taking your lands, your jobs, your businesses, your transporation, adding to your grocery bill, your fuel, utility and gasoline costs. Land Park Dr. Sacramento, Cal. 95822 Dear Editor: An open letter to the people of Iron County and Southern Utah: Three years ago today, January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court radicalized the laws of all 50 states and legalized abortion on demand. The Court stated that legal personhood does not exist prena tally, (before the cord is cut). For at least three years, parents, teachers, clergy and concerned people nationwide have been pushing for reversal of that law in the form of a Human Life Amendment that would protect life at all stages of biological development.. .from conception to natural death. The National Right To Life Committee and all affiliated chapters believe the Constitution of the United States and its amendments and laws guarantee all rights and priviledges, including in-cluding life, to its citizens or persons. We also believe in the traditional Christian-Judeao, medical and legal values concerning con-cerning the right to life. We have asked the Supreme Court to reconsider their decision and repeal the 1973 abortion law in the interest of the citizens of the United States, including the millions of unborn children who are destroyed yearly by this indiscriminate law. How many are aware that in Utah alone, 1189 abortions were performed during nine months of 1974; and, 13 percent of those were paid by Utah tax dollars to the tune of $23,700; (based on the figure of $150.00 per abortion). These figures are for those reported abortions to the department of vital statistics. If the trend continued a probable rise of 7.6 percent is expected for 1975. How many know that Senator Garn of Utah Co-sponsored a bill to prevent the Department of Health Education and Welfare from providing approximately 50 million tax dollars for the destruction of human life nationwide. This bill, unfortunately, un-fortunately, was tabled. The Human Life Amendment has been in sub-committee and voted down. But. each time the hearings come up a few more votes go to the pro-life side, including in-cluding Senator Proxmire's vote, who is noted as a liberal. Hearings again are scheduled sometime during January. Once it's out of sub-committee the amendment has to pass Congress by a two thirds majority vote to be ratified by three fourths of the states. Therefore, we ask all the people who are concerned about abortion on demand to let Senator Moss, Congressman McKay and Congressman Howe, know your feelings, and ask them to co-sponsor the Human Life Amendment. Senator Garn has given his approval and support. Write also to the Supreme Court and our President. Declarations against abortion will not get the law changed.. .ACTION WILL!! . Abortion for medical reasons is justified. Abortion for socioeconomic, socio-economic, socio-psychologic, and psychiatric reasons is not justified. A doctor can always be found to certify abortion for these reasons, all that is needed to find him is money. Abortion will not prevent unwed mothers, poverty, mental problems, unwanted un-wanted or battered children. However, changes in welfare laws, better sex education, better day care centers, better mental health measures and better poverty prevention measures are needed; and, certainly 50 million tax dollars , for abortion can better be spent to bring about the changes needed in our society so we can become a nation unified in the respect for human life. Are we going to become a nation willing to solve our problems by killing? Or, are we going to become a nation willing to solve its problems through sacrifice, concern and love. You must decide and then act. ..Now! Mrs. Kay Sheehan Cedar City Right to Life Committee |
